The Healing Garden stands at the center of the hospital and is a comforting, peaceful retreat for patients, family, and staff. It is a place for gathering and repose. Bloom is set against the hill and in line with the garden fountains so that it will be a focal point for visitors to the garden as well as patients and staff with views to the garden from inside the hospital. The sculpture is designed to spark curiosity and invite people into the garden where they might also notice native plants, listen to the bubbling water fountains, or hear the wind rustling the leaves of birch trees.
The sculpture depicts a suspended flower. During the daytime, the reflective surface of the flower will engage garden visitors by providing transformed views of the garden and hospital. During the evening, the sculpture acts as lantern and takes on a different look.
